What a way to finish off my August of weddings! On Saturday I had the absolute pleasure of being asked to photograph April and Ambrose’s wedding day in Cardiff. After a morning downpour of rain the skies soon cleared for a glorious summer day. I joined April and her bridesmaids a couple of hours before the ceremony to photograph their morning preps, as well as some lovely first reaction shots (scroll down to see Dad’s first reaction!).

We arrived at St. Mark's Evangelical Anglican Church, Cardiff, for noon and enjoyed a lovely ceremony full of heartfelt readings and plenty of emotion in the room. I loved being able to capture the looks between the couple and so many happy reactions from their friends and family. After a tunnel of confetti we all proceeded to the amazing wedding reception venue that was the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

The foyer of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama had been transformed into a stunning wedding venue. The venue is based right next to Cardiff’s stunning Bute Park, so we took some time to pop in there to capture some casual couple portraits in the afternoon light.

So many of the weddings I have photographed recently have been full of special traditions and this one was no different. We headed back in to the venue for the Chinese Tea Ceremony. This is a traditional ceremony that acts as a way of the couple to show respect and gratitude to their parents and relatives for the many years of care and love that they have given them. It is also a chance for gifts to be given to the couple, usually in the form of money inside a read envelope called a 'lai see' or 'hong bao'. It was now time for the wedding breakfast to begin!

The speeches soon came along, being spoke in both English and Chinese to ensure everyone could enjoy them. After a few more evening couple portraits April and Ambrose got their dancing shoes on to join in with the Ceilidh!
